MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont Senate committee has unamimously approved a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state.
The senate Judiciary Committee voted 5-0 on Friday to advance the measure that was the topic of an emotional public hearing on Wednesday that drew hundreds to the Statehouse.
The full Senate is expected to take up the bill next week.
Gov. Jim Douglas has said he opposes the measure, but has not indicated whether he would veto it.
If approved, Vermont would join Massachusetts and Connecticut as the only U.S. states that allow gay marriage.

There’s a lot I could say, but it’d all pretty much summarize to “Go Vermont.” So I’ll just stick with that.
Ravyn, it’s a start….
The male person went to college and law school in Vermont. His “home town” while he lived there voted to impeach Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney. He was very proud of that. He likes Vermont’s independance.
Go Vermont sounds good….
Slowly…..but it’s getting there……
This is good news
A giant step for mankind.

I think New York will come around too. Maybe Oregon and Wash State at some point. If legislatures don’t do it, then the Courts will. I think this can happen in any state that doesn’t have those stupid ballot measures like California and Colorado do.
Finally a state that has sane people.
go vermont…..My partner and I always laugh when we go to our accountant at tax season. Were married in state, but not in federal, it just seems so weird.
Go vermont…
I was really, really happy when I heard this!
Woohoo! Yay Vermont!
